Placenta Praevia

About- Placenta previa occurs when a baby's placenta partially or totally covers the mother's cervix, the outlet for the uterus which may cause severe bleeding during pregnancy and delivery
 
Symptoms-
 Bright red vaginal bleeding without pain during the second half of pregnancy
 Contractions
 Cramps or sharp pains
 Intermittent bleeding
 Bleeding after intercourse
 
Causes-
The exact cause of
Placenta previa is unknown.
Risk factors
 Abnormally shaped uterus
 Being pregnant with twins or other multiples
 Having already given birth to one child
 History of Placenta previa
 Large placenta
 Older women (Are more than 35)
 Previous utrine surgeries such as cesarean delivery, surgery to remove uterine fibroids, dilation and curettage (D&C)
 Prior miscarriage
 Smoking
 The unusual position of the baby like breech (buttocks first) or transverse (lying horizontally across the womb)
 Use illegal drugs like cocaine
