Placental Abruption

About- Placental abruption is a serious pregnancy complication occurs when the placenta partially or completely separates from the uterus before delivery and may decrease or block the baby's supply of oxygen and nutrients and cause heavy bleeding in the mother.

Symptoms-

 Abdominal pain
 Back pain
 Stiffness in the uterus
 Uterine tenderness and contractions
 Vaginal bleeding

Causes-
Risk Factors

 Placental abruption in a previous pregnancy
 High blood pressure (hypertension)
 High blood pressure during pregnancy, resulting in preeclampsia or eclampsia
 Early rupture of membranes, which causes leaking amniotic fluid before the end of pregnancy
 High amounts of amniotic fluid
 Uterine infection
 Umbilical cord problems
 Being older than 35
 Being pregnant with multiple babies
 Traumatic injury, such as a car accident, fall, or physical abuse
 Smoking
 Use cocaine or other illegal drugs during pregnancy
