Polio (Poliomyelitis)

About- Polio or poliomyelitis is a highly contagious disease caused by a virus that attacks the nervous system and may cause paralysis, shortness of breath, and sometimes death.
 
Symptoms-
There are 3 types of symptoms
Nonparalytic polio/ abortive polio (doesn't lead to paralysis and may last up to 10 days)

Polio Back pain or stiffness
Polio Fatigue
Polio Fever
Polio Flu-like symptoms
Polio Headache
Polio Meningitis
Polio Muscle weakness or tenderness
Polio Neck pain or stiffness
Polio Pain or stiffness in the arms or legs
Polio Sore throat
Polio Vomiting
 
Paralytic polio (leads to paralysis)
Polio Deformed limbs, especially the hips, ankles, and feet
Polio Fever
Polio Headache
Polio Loose and floppy limbs (flaccid paralysis)
Polio Loss of reflexes
Polio Paralysis in the brainstem (bulbar polio)
Polio Paralysis in the spinal cord and brainstem both (bulbospinal polio)
Polio Paralysis in the spinal cord (spinal polio)
Polio Severe muscle pain or weakness
Polio Sudden paralysis, temporary or permanent
 
Post-polio syndrome
Polio Concentration and memory problem
Polio Decreased tolerance of cold temperatures
Polio Depression
Polio Difficulty swallowing
Polio Fatigue
Polio Joint pain and weakness
Polio Muscle wasting (atrophy)
Polio Obstructive sleep apnea
Polio Progressive muscle pain and weakness
Polio Shortness of Breath

Poliovirus can be transmitted through

Polio Direct contact with the infected person
